Take a sip
Golden Pin Design Award 2026 — Design Mark Winner
Take a sip is a small idea inspired by everyday life—we designed a “straw” for books. Sometimes books resemble boxed drinks: similar in form, with clear, recognizable covers, neatly arranged on shelves, waiting to be picked up, opened, and enjoyed. Meanwhile, colorful straws bent into various shapes often evoke a sense of leisurely holidays—sunshine, sea breeze, and time without urgency. Through visual association, we bring familiar everyday experiences into the act of reading. When the straw is inserted into a book, people can intuitively understand the idea behind the work without the need for further explanation. By shifting familiar everyday objects into a new context, Take a sip seeks to add a sense of playfulness to printed reading, and invites people to temporarily set aside purpose, and simply enjoy reading itself.
In production, Take a sip uses eco-friendly paper made from 100% recycled fibers, and applies letterpress to enhance the tactile quality and layered texture of the material, giving the object perceptible details beyond its visual appearance. The packaging extends the conceptual context of the work by placing the straw into a card printed with a boxed drink image, allowing the act of unboxing and handling to naturally evoke associations with “drinking,” and thereby extending the coherence of the overall experience. A flat-pack structure is also adopted to reduce volume and improve storage and transportation efficiency.
