Borrowing the everyday logic of supermarket storage, we understand reading as a continuous process of selecting, placing, and temporarily holding. Placing an item into a basket and inserting a bookmark into a book operate in the same way: neither signals completion, but instead provides an intermediate state for content that has not yet been fully processed.
